Our Beginner Oil Painting Workshops consist of three sessions designed to introduce participants to the essential techniques and principles of oil painting. While the medium may seem daunting, it offers significant advantages that enhance artistic skills. Participants will learn about materials, tools, colour mixing, brushwork, layering, and blending—key techniques for creating depth and texture in their artwork.
By the end of three sessions, you'll not only have completed a beautiful painting but also a newfound confidence in your approach to oil painting! We’ll provide you with reference images, from still life to landscapes, to spark your creativity. Our friendly instructors will be there every step of the way, offering helpful feedback and personalised tips to support your artistic journey. We can’t wait to see what you create!
-----Participants are required to self-collect their painting in the studio one week after it has been left in the studio to fully dry. Due to limited storage space, collection will need to be done within one month from the workshop date. Any artworks left longer than that will be discarded.

Tones, Highlights & Shadows
We will discover how using different tones in your artwork can help create those eye-catching three-dimensional forms right on a flat canvas! We’ll talk about the importance of highlights and shadows and how they can bring depth and realism to your art pieces.
Basic Colour Theory
Introduction to the basics of colour! We’ll cover essential colour terms, how to mix paints like a pro, and have fun experimenting with different hues and shades to brighten up your palette.
Colour Temperature & Schemes
Get ready to learn colour schemes and temperatures! We’ll explore warm and cool colours and how to use them effectively in your paintings. You’ll discover how colour can set the mood and atmosphere of your artwork!
Starting a Painting & Underpainting
We’ll learn about underpainting, sketching your ideas, and layering techniques to help you build depth and interest in your artwork. It’s all about taking it one step at a time!
Building Up FormAs we continue our journey, you’ll develop a keen sensitivity to tone and colour while building up forms in your artwork. It's about honing your observation skills and practising to achieve realistic forms—let's get creative!

You’ll learn some great brush control tips and discover what to pay attention to when working on the finer details in your artwork.
Varnishing your painting:
Learning how and why artists varnish their work is an important part of oil painting.------
